Tips for baby proofing your halls and stairs

Baby Proofing Directory > Room By Room > Baby proofing the halls and stairs

Hallway and stairs create an interesting problem. Other family members need access to other areas of the house, but you don’t want your toddler to get hurt.
Baby gates are going to be your best friend for these areas. If you are renting your home, you can choose easy to remove models. Installed baby gates are the most secure, and eliminate pinched fingers.

The following is a list of tips that you will want to keep in mind for this area.

1. Night lights. Poorly lit areas are breeding grounds for trouble, so make sure that stairwells and hallways are all properly lit.

2. Rugs. If you have rugs, make sure that they are secured with rug tape or have non-slip backing.

3. Always use a baby gate at the top and bottom of all stairways.

4. Consider carpeting your stairs to help soften falls.
